Caring for leather and suede — what a specialist does that a laundry can't
Leather is skin: it needs feeding, not just cleaning. Why generic dry-cleaning ruins it, and what proper restoration looks like.
Leather and suede are the items most cleaners quietly refuse — and the ones most often ruined by the ones who don't. Ordinary dry-cleaning solvent strips the natural oils out of a hide, leaving it stiff, cracked and faded.
Specialist leather care is a different process: the piece is cleaned with products made for skin, the oils and finish are fed back in, and colour is re-pigmented where it has worn or faded. Suede is brushed and re-napped rather than pressed.
5àsec treats leather jackets, bags, gloves and suede footwear as restoration jobs, not laundry. The goal is a piece that looks worn-in, not worn-out.
